Can somebody take photos, draw pictures or film me without my clothes on, having sex or masturbating?

Pornography is pictures of somebody where their clothes do not cover their private parts, or having sex or masturbating. Pornography is supposed to make people who see the pictures think about sex. It can be any kind of picture. This includes photos, drawings or videos. Pornographic pictures can be of the whole body or part of the body.

The law says that if you are 17 or younger, nobody can take pornographic pictures of you or make copies of them, even if you say it’s OK. This is called ‘child pornography’. The law says this is very wrong and people can go to jail for doing it. If this has happened to you, you can tell the Police or tell an adult that you trust.

Even if you are under 18 yourself, you can still get in trouble from the police and the law for taking, copying or having these pictures. This even includes pictures of your boyfriend or girlfriend.

If you are 18 or older, somebody can take pictures of you without your clothes on or having sex only if you agree. They shouldn’t show the pictures to anybody else unless you say it’s OK. But, the law says that if somebody is paying you to take your clothes off or have sex, you can only take this money if you have a licence to work as a sex worker.

There are also important things to know about sending pornographic pictures on your mobile and the internet.

If somebody is taking pornographic pictures of you and you don’t want them to, or you are under 18, you can contact the police or Centres Against Sexual Assault for more information and help.
